New York Summit To Draw Next-Gen Philanthropists From Around The World

A large gathering of young philanthropists will take place in New York over this week, kicking off on Wednesday with a schedule of talks that will draw young people from all over the world with a net worth of some $100 billion. The second Nexus Global Youth Summit will host wide-ranging panels discussion on cutting-edge topics such as “the coming of age of Arab youth” and “Africa 2.0”. The famous names included, which come from the sports, business and political worlds and include ex-basketball players Isiah Thomas and Amare Stoudemire and former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, demonstrate how discerning the young and wealthy are in choosing which events to attend. The topics covered also illustrate how global their viewpoint is. The goal of the summit is to create a network encompassing young wealth holders, young innovators and “movement builders,” with the purpose of transforming global philanthropy and social entrepreneurialism. Last year’s summit inspired $10 million in philanthropic donations and helped launch dozens of partnerships and ventures, the organizers said. This is taking place in light of the large generational wealth transfer, which a 2012 report from Accenture estimated would amount to over $30 trillion by 2050. A Global Report on Tax Incentives for Philanthropy will also be announced at the summit, which will aim to raise support for a United Nations Resolution calling for a global campaign to create a culture of philanthropy.
